Air of Truth
Exploring Air Pollution and Its Impact On Communities
Air quality is an issue that disproportionately affects low-income communities of color. This exhibit helps us understand how historic redlining and unfair development practices have put these communities at increased risk of health impacts.
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation conducted a block-by-block study of the air pollutants in south end neighborhoods in New Rochelle. The Air of Truth explores the study's data, and provides information about pollution sources and solutions to the problems it causes.
This 2025 exhibit was a collaboration between NRHS Air of Truth interns, NRHS Teacher Carmen Glenn, and the Energy Justice Law & Policy Center.
Wild Things
A photographic exhibit of the birds & beasts in the New York area
Bruno Attisani was born in Calabria, Italy, and came to the U.S. in 1980. He started as a custodian for the New Rochelle public schools in 2008, first at Albert Leonard Middle School, and then at New Rochelle High School.
Bruno bought his first camera and left it under his bed for weeks. Eventually he started capturing waterfalls and people in natural settings, learning about photography as he went. YouTube was a big help and Bruno watched endless “How To” videos. He started networking with other photographers who gave him pointers on how to improve his images and he began to invest in better equipment.
Now, when he sees an owl, his adrenaline kicks in and he can't stop smiling. Most images in the show are of bald eagles, peregrine falcons in flight and a variety of owls. All are amazing and took hours of patience to capture that perfect moment.
