Chess Instruction
Free afterschool classes for third and fourth graders
We are excited to announce that the New Rochelle schools will offer after-school chess programs for the 2025–26 school year! All third- and fourth-grade students in New Rochelle will have the opportunity to learn chess at their school, with one hour of instruction provided for 10 weeks. The first session starts in November/December and the second session starts in February/March.
Expert instructors from the National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF) teach chess strategies while promoting critical thinking and social skills in a playful environment. Chess develops students’ problem-solving and social skills, while also improving math and language abilities. The Fund hopes to expand this exceptional program over the next few years.
- Fee: $100 for 10 weeks of instruction. Scholarships are available to families in need of financial assistance.
- Space is limited. If interest exceeds capacity, student enrollment will be determined by lottery. Families will be notified if their student is selected.
- Register by completing the Interest Form for your school and watch for a confirmation and (if necessary) lottery notification.
